Young leader speaks at Rotary breakfast

Right: Laura Hollingsworth with Pat and Mindi Devine.

About 20 people had the pleasure of hearing Laura Hollingworth speak at the weekly Rotary Sunrise Club breakfast recently.
Laura was representing the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) committee and spoke about the benefits for young people in attending the annual Rotary District 9640 RYLA program. She is a recent graduate of the program and now a member of the District committee of RYLA.
About 100 young people aged from 18 to 29 attend the camp each year at the end of January as a way of developing both their personal and professional skills, and setting a course in their lives.
“RYLA is a great opportunity to gain new skills and to network” says Laura.  “It is an exciting experience and gives participants the chance to hear motivational speakers, make friends, and find out what they want to do in life”.
The camp is held in Northern New South Wales and includes group activities which create support, trust and build confidence.
The Stanthorpe, Allora and two Warwick Rotary clubs all sponsor participants each year.
Rotary Sunrise Club Youth Director, Pat Devine, said “We see real changes in the level of confidence of participants after the camp.  It challenges even the best of them”.
Mindi Devine said she had been to a similar RYLA camp when she was an exchange student in Canada.  “It is about being non -competitive, networking and having fun”.
RYLA is open to anyone in the age range of 18 to 29.  Applications close at the end of October.  Any one interested should contact Pat or Robyn Devine (4661 9019) or Peter Rodeck (4661 2965) President of Warwick Rotary Sunrise Club.
