Diversity at Artworks

Esme Colley,

Diversity, a collaborative exhibition of works from local artists Esme Colley and Marie Favero, opens at Artworks Gallery this week.

Stanthorpe-born Esme said the exhibition was a dream come true for her.

“I always loved doing things with my hands but never dreamt that I could produce anything good enough on canvas for people to enjoy looking at or ever want to buy,“ she said.

“As a full-time carer for her husband, she found Art was an outlet and the friendships formed in the art group form an important part of her life to this day.“

Over the years Esme has entered art in the Stanthorpe Show and Jumpers and Jazz, winning prizes, selling works and receiving commissions.

This exhibition from Esme features a wide range of works including watercolour, pastel, pencil, mixed media and embroidery. The subject matter ranges from still life, animals, landscapes and the feature piece “Heirloom” is a fine example of embroidery, ribbon embroidery, crochet and tatting.

Marie Favero has produced a vibrant display of acrylic work featuring animals, flowers and landscapes.

The stark contrast between these two artists makes for a very interesting exhibition which will be on display from 28 January until 26 March in the Ann Marie O’Callaghan Gallery at Artworks, in the Heritage Railway Precinct.

Opening night is Saturday at 5.30pm with guest speaker Laurie Astill, a renowned local artist himself and a great friend and supporter of these two artists. RSVP 0468 742 203 light supper provided, first beverage is complimentary.
