Hotel Crows about history

THE Grand Old Crow Hotel is a local landmark in Crows Nest.

The hotel was opened on 13 July 1908 and was the only brick building in Crow’s Nest at that time.

According to publican Ty Rick, it faced William Street and once had a double verandah on two sides with a conical tower on the corner.

“The building has not changed a great deal in the past 106 years, with the exception of the removal of the verandah and some of its fancy effects,” he said.

These days it is not the only brick building in town, but it is the only pub, but that doesn’t mean they rest on their laurels.

“We are the only hotel in the town, so therefore we have to work very hard to keep everyone happy. If we become complacent, then people simply don’t visit our establishment,” Ty said.

For Ty the pub is a labour of love.

“I have come back to the town; I grew up in to run the Grand Old Crow,” he said.

“Every day in the business is memorable because no two days are the same.”

Employing 13 staff who Ty says “do everything to keep the business running smoothly and the patrons well looked after” the Grand Ol’ Crow may be 106 years old but it has all the modern facilities including a TAB, restaurant, KENO, accommodation, bar, 18 gaming machines and drive through bottle shop.

It offers both indoor and outdoor dining, and with popular local chef Glen Bayer back on-board after an extended break, the lovely old pub has a great selection of delicious al-a-carte – country meals.

The Grand Old Crow Hotel is open from 10am to 10pm seven days a week and for lunch from noon to 2pm and dinner from 6pm – 8pm.

Find the Grand Ol’ Crow Hotel and it’s friendly staff at 32 William Street, Crows Nest, or phone 4698 1108.
