SCOTS does it MyWay

At SCOTS PGC College, we’re redefining how senior school is done and we’re calling it ‘MyWay’. For us, it’s all about preparing our students for the journey ahead in a way that’s real, relevant and meaningful to them.

Designed to help students find their passion, fulfil their potential and pursue their pathway of choice, SCOTS MyWay will see those in Years 10 to 12 participate in one of two clearly defined programs, UniWay or WorkWay. Both pathways are built on solid foundations and each incorporates existing programs and reflects our deep experience in teaching and learning delivery.

Principal Kyle Thompson emphasises that MyWay provides a tailored educational experience to prepare students for their chosen paths.

“While UniWay is focused on helping students maximise ATAR scores, access headstart programs and course credits and honing their study skills, WorkWay enables students to engage in real world training, secure nationally recognised qualifications and explore, in depth, industry and workforce opportunities.

“Neither pathway is new, but our structured approach makes this program unique,” Mr. Thompson said. Traditional education often prioritises academic routes, leaving vocational options as secondary. MyWay addresses this gap, ensuring all pathways are valued and aimed at excellence.

“Conversations over time with students, parents, educators and industry alike continued to demonstrate the value in re-thinking how we best prepare students to take their place in the world and we’re excited to be in a position where we can truly deliver individualised learning.

“MyWay reflects our belief that all pathways are valuable and valued and regardless of the direction our students take, pursuing excellence remains the goal.

The program not only enhances student learning but also benefits the Southern Downs region. Warwick Fraser, Director of Frasers Livestock Transport, believes that equipping students with work-ready skills will bolster the local workforce. “The value we see in the MyWay program is that it threads together the educational expertise of SCOTS PGC with real businesses like ours.”

Helen Nolan, Executive Director of the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), appreciates the collaboration with SCOTS PGC. “Partnering with schools enhances students’ readiness for university,” she explained, highlighting opportunities for gaining credits and QCE points through UniSQ’s Headstart program.

Ultimately, Principal Thompson sees MyWay as a commitment to student success, enhancing not just educational outcomes but also community ties and relationships with local industries.
