Last Friday, Years 3 and 4 students from Stanthorpe State School set off on an exciting excursion to SeaWorld on the Gold Coast, where they explored marine life and learned about ocean conservation.
The trip was made even more special by the fact that it marks the final year of composite classes at the school. Starting in 2025, Stanthorpe State School will transition back to straight year levels, bringing a renewed focus on year-specific learning.
Despite a sweltering heatwave, the students were eager to dive into the marine world. Highlights of the day included dolphin shows, the chance to pat stingrays and manta rays, and watching playful polar bears swim in their enclosures. The aquariums were a standout, with students marvelling at vibrant fish, massive stingrays, and deep-sea creatures. The Jellyfish exhibit, with its glowing, fluorescent jellyfish, provided a stunning visual escape from the heat.
The Thunder Lake Stunt Show also thrilled the students with exciting stunts on land and water.
The excursion doubled as a reward for the students’ persuasive writing skills, with each student crafting a speech to convince Principal Mrs. Williamson to approve the trip. Their hard work paid off with this memorable experience.
It was a day filled with learning, fun, and new experiences—a perfect adventure for our young learners at Stanthorpe State School.
