As a result of flooding, the body of water at Warwick’s Coombes Bridge was at a high level last week.

Waste and a strong odour were also present at the site, which has since been cleared.

Director Infrastructure Services Gary Murphy said council crews are working to displace flood debris from the bridge.

“The debris is not physically removed from the river but dislodged downstream unless it presents safety issues,” Gary said.

“Given there are many upstream properties within the flood plain, it is important to ensure any structure across the river does not create an afflux issue.”

He said afflux is defined as the increase in upstream water depth as a result of constriction of a flow channel.

“The height and profile of Coombes Bridge was designed and constructed to prevent an afflux,” Gary said.

For residents with concerns about flood damage or recovery work, council said reporting any inquires to the My SDRC App is advisable.
