After facing a “slight setback” for their gig on 19 March, Granite Belt Music Council (GBMC) is going ahead with their event at the Paddy Ryan Bandstand in Weeroona Park instead of at the piazza.

While they initially had The Free Radicals Reloaded booked for the event, Matt Carter will now be performing from 11 am to 12 pm.

While the event was initially planned for the piazza in the centre of town, Marissa Clark, secretary of GBMC, said Southern Downs Regional Council have given their booking to a charity group, although they put in their application on 2 March and chief executive Dave Burges agreed they could use the piazza.

Marissa stated that SDRC is reportedly looking at introducing an automatic online booking system, which may avoid these disappointments in the future.

GBMC has confirmation for gigs to happen once a month in Weerona park for 12 months and most Saturdays.

When not being used by other organisations, events will be at the piazza.

GBMC previously stated they had a long list of acts excited to play in the piazza, including groups from out of town eager to make the trip to play.

GBMC requires public support to fund the venture, and locals interested in supporting them can reach out to Pierre Sparks via the Tin City Music Collective Facebook page or send donations to their bank account included at the end of this article.

“This is a non-profit organisation, yet these artists must be paid like any other service to the community,” Marissa said.

Marissa says the vision of GBMC is to unite local artists and musicians with their community.

GBMC hope to continually showcase talent through performance to link all arts organisations and events in our local community.

Entry to their weekend events is free and entirely funded by the community.

Donations can be sent to the Granite Belt Music Council bank account via BSB 633 000 and Account Number 181 247 909.
