Four killed after truck collides with car at The Summit

Four people have died following a crash at The Summit this afternoon.

In a release, Queensland Police Services stated that around 5.30 pm a semi-trailer was travelling north on the New England Highway near The Summit when a collision occurred with a vehicle at the intersection of Granite Belt Drive.

Four people from the vehicle died from their injuries at the scene. Investigators are working to establish their identities.

Witnesses, especially those with dashcam footage capturing the moments leading up to and including the crash are urged to come forward.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services representative told the ABC earlier tonight that a truck hit a car at the highway’s intersection with Sawmill Road at the suburb of The Summit, killing all four of the car’s occupants.

The spokesperson said the truck had been carrying steel.

Three paramedic crews and a helicopter were sent to the scene of the crash.

It is understood the truck driver is uninjured, but has been taken to hospital.

Police said the crash happened at 5:30 pm and the Northbound lanes would remain shut for some time.

They said a diversion for northbound traffic would be via Granite Belt Drive.
