National Stroke Week

Stroke Foundation is encouraging the community to learn the F.A.S.T (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) message so that more people survive and live well after stroke, and can keep enjoying life’s precious moments.

• Stroke is one of Australia’s biggest killers and a leading cause of disability.

• There is one stroke every 19 minutes in Australia.

• More than 80 per cent of strokes can be prevented.

• Stroke can strike anyone at any age, even babies.

• Regional Australians are 17 per cent more likely to experience a stroke than those in metropolitan areas.

You can save the life of a loved one, colleague, stranger or even yourself by learning the F.A.S.T message and calling an ambulance if you suspect a stroke.

Share the F.A.S.T message this National Stroke Week:

F stands for face – Check their face. Has their mouth drooped?

A stands for arms – Can they lift both arms?

S stands for speech – Is their speech slurred?

T stands for time – Time is critical. If you see any of these signs, call triple 000 straight away.
