Stanthorpe Police are warning businesses to up their security after a spate of break-ins, the latest at M and D Autoparts on Davadi St on Monday 3 October.

The offenders jimmy opened the front door and conducted an untidy search.

They took three socket sets and a small amount of change before leaving.

The recent spike targets business houses in the CBD area and serves as a timely reminder to review security.

Senior Sergeant Gerard Brady said this has been going on for the last month.

“These matters have been handed over to Stanthorpe CIB and they are following up on a number of lines of inquiries.“

M and D Autoparts owner Judy Spiller said they were disappointed that this is happening.

“We normally have a safe community. We want to thank everyone for their expressions of concern, it’s comforting,“ Ms Spiller said.

Preventing break ins and robbery is an ongoing task and frequent reminders are just the beginning of a focus on vigilance that business houses need to conduct.

One of the main preventatives is to not leave cash in tills.

“If you have security lights and cameras ensure they are in working condition,“ Senior Sergeant Brady said.

“By having these in good working condition the chances of finding the perpetrators is heightened,“.

The Crime Investigation Bureau is following up on leads and looking at CCTV footage.
