Well, Rodeo week is done and dusted and I for one had a blast.
My mum travelled out for the occasion and I thoroughly enjoyed watching my little city-slicker mum running around the Showgrounds in an Akubra. I think she enjoyed watching me stand in the middle of Palmerin Street with a camera while surrounded by horses, trucks, and floats.
It was truly a whirlwind week, and it’s hard to pick a favourite memory. I was thrilled to follow the Rodeo Royalty around again this year, but think the Street Parade was the standout for me as I didn’t get to see it last year.
In her entrant speech, Rodeo Queen Maddie Gray spoke of the “spirit of the rodeo” and I truly believe it was present this week. There were some tough calls made due to the weather, but we took it in stride and made the most of it.
