The Border Rivers League 2023 season opened at the weekend with games at Sullivan Oval Stanthorpe, Inglewood and at the home of the Eastern Suburbs Hornets.

In a tough game the Stanthorpe Gremlins, who did not play in the pre-season round robin, proved too strong for competition newcomer Macintyre Warriors. Only a converted try separated the two sides at full-time 32-26.

In Inglewood the Roosters scored a 34-16 win over arch rivals the Texas Terriers.

The experience of Brett Hearne and Brent Osborne was clearly the difference between the two sides. Between them they scored five tries and Hearne was as ever on target with the boot kicking five goals.

In Warwick the Hornets stung the Tigers scoring a 28-26 win that not many saw coming. The win shows the Hornets will be a force to be reckoned with this season and are not in the comepitition to merely make up the numbers.

In the Ladies League Tag games Inglewood defeated the Foxy Terriers 14nil. The Tenterfield girls continued on their winning way scoring a 42-4 win of the Hornets. In Stanthorpe the Gremlin’s girls proved too strong for McIntyre winning 12-nil.
