Calling all nature enthusiasts and flower lovers! The Stanthorpe Rare Wildflower Consortium’s final event in their series of wildflower walks will take place on Sunday, 29 October, at Girraween National Park.

This popular event, held every spring, aims to showcase the region’s breathtaking flora to both locals and visitors.

Despite the recent dry conditions, Liz Bourne, the Secretary of the Consortium, assures participants that there will still be an abundance of wildflowers to admire.

Experienced members of the Consortium will guide the walks, offering valuable knowledge on flower identification and insights into the ecological requirements of each species.

To aid in identification, a handy booklet featuring information on the most common wildflowers will be available for purchase at the walk for just $5.

The upcoming walk will lead attendees along the track to Mt Norman in the southeastern part of Girraween National Park, accessible via Mt Norman Road.

The duration of the walk is typically 2-3 hours, and the initial section of the track is flat, making it suitable for most participants.

Those looking for a more challenging experience can venture further towards Mt Norman, exploring different pavement areas atop rock slabs.

The meeting point for the walk is the Mt Norman day-use area, easily accessed via the scenic Mt Norman Road from Wallangarra. The walk will commence promptly at 9.30am, so participants are encouraged to arrive on time.

Due to the growing popularity of these walks, the Consortium now requires online bookings to manage numbers effectively. To secure a spot, interested individuals can visit their website, www.granitebeltwildflowers.com, and complete the booking process.
