Folk, classical and jazz fusion hit Glen Aplin

Cigány Weaver set to play at Glen Aplin Hall 13 January.

Kick off your 2024 with live music at the Glen Aplin Hall.

’Cigány Weaver’s new album just announced with multi-date Australian tour.

The Glen Aplin Hall have been fortunate enough to have ’Cigány Weaver’ lock in a performance for their new album on Saturday 13 January 2023.

It is a great opportunity for the Granite Belt community and visitors to experience a fusion of folk music, the precision of classical, and the spontaneity of jazz.

Cigány Weaver create a rich and vibrant atmosphere for both the heart and mind. Front woman, Jo Davie’s soaring vocals and enchanting gentle demeanour combine with the fiery violin, dynamic guitars and driving rhythm section to create a purely acoustic group that effortlessly navigates the musical nexus between intimacy and raucousness.

Recently the band were nominated for two National Live Music awards (NLMAs) for Best Australian Jazz Act, and Best QLD Act.

2019 delivered the release of the band’s debut eponymous album, premiering the group’s first original compositions within the genre and receiving a highly commended for the track ‘Janome’ in the Jazz category of the 2020 Queensland Music Awards.

The album was received with great acclaim, finding airplay on ABC, Triple J, Double J, and community radio stations across Australia.

The band’s second album will be released on 11 January 2024 and hear it live at the Glen Aplin Hall on 13 January.

It is as likely to find Cigány Weaver packing out shows at renowned festivals such as Woodford Folk Festival (QLD), Caloundra Music Festival (QLD) and MONA’s Dark Mofo (TAS), as it is to find them playing a secret gig in a jazz bar. The sextet’s signature compositions and arrangements weave a musical tapestry by drawing inspiration from the past, contributing a new direction to the Australian music scene.

Head to Glen Aplin Hall on Saturday 13 January.  Doors open at 6.30pm and tickets can be purchased online at: ciganyweaver.com for early bird discounts ($20.00 adult) or at the Glen Aplin Hall at the door ($25.00 adult) – children under 13 are free.
