Stanthorpe golfers played the second of a two round stroke event last Saturday 13 January for claiming rights to the Foundation Cups. The men’s Cup event was first played for back in 1948 and names of winners have been continually placed on the cup.

This year, the honour went to Barry Hughes after two consistent rounds of nett 71 both times. The ladies’ Cup was presented to Nikki Waterworth with a final score of nett 148. Congratulations to both players.

The day’s single event was sponsored by club president, Len Leigh and we thank him for the day. The men’s event was won by local junior golfer, Hamish Adam after a count back with Rino Piovesan, both players on nett 69. Hamish is on a 4 handicap and his 73 off the stick was very impressive. Raymond Adams and Mark Richards featured in the run down, both players on nett 70.

The ladies’ event was another win to the Cup winner, Nikki Waterworth although a count back was again needed for her to hold off Lisa Stuart, both players on nett 79. Lynette Ludlow and Linda Kelly rounded out the awards claiming in the run down.

Winners of pin shots were Terry Roser at 3 and Dave Burgess at 17. Neta Thouard claimed both pins at 12 and 17 for the ladies. Tod Becket collected the pro-pin at 1/10, Mick O’Brien at 5/14 and Hamish Adam at 9/18. Neta Thouard (again) also claimed the approach at 5 and Helen Jones took the prize for hole 16.

After two stroke rounds, next week will be a stableford event, the event sponsored by Jason Lawer. Jason started his golf as a junior at Stanthorpe and became very proficient at the game. Unfortunately, work intervened but we hope to see him back on the course for his weekend. Tee off from 11.30 am and the time sheet is again available on-line.
