World famous soprano Mirusia, known as the Angel of Australia, is coming to Stanthorpe for one night only in early April.

For people on the Granite Belt and surrounding districts, it’s a rare opportunity to snap up tickets to the type of event usually only seen on the stages of capital cities.

A Night at the Proms with Mirusia is a fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Stanthorpe, and the Stanthorpe Civic Centre will be centre stage for the event on Saturday night, 6 April.

The Clarence Valley Orchestra and Chorus, joined by some local players and singers from Stanthorpe and Warwick, will provide the music in dress that would not be out of place at an André Rieu event.

In fact, Mirusia Louwerse had a 10-year career as the Dutch violinist’s star soprano and it was he who gave her the title, Angel of Australia.

Since then she has won an ARIA award as the Number 1 Classical Crossover artist and multiple other awards and travels regularly for her busy performing schedule.

At the orchestra’s helm will be conductor Greg Butcher. The Clarence Valley Orchestra and Chorus was formed by Mr Butcher a decade ago bringing together amateur musicians and qualified music teachers from Grafton and nearby towns. His mission was to produce large scale community-based entertainment. Mr Butcher, who started his professional music career with the Royal Australian Air Force Operational Command Band as a tuba player and trombonist, has performed internationally at major Military Tattoos, Jazz Festivals, official Royal and Presidential Vice-Regal engagements and has even played fanfares at Olympic and Commonwealth Games during his 20 years of service.

Tickets are available through Trybooking or by phoning Rotarian Leeanne Gangemi on 4684 1226.
