It’s always fun to open boxes of goodies. Just before Easter, members of the Southern Downs String Ensemble were delighted to dive into unpacking some new music stands and a stand trolley.

The ensemble, which includes school students and adults, has been meeting at Belinda Lister’s Dalcouth studio for some time and recently became an incorporated body.

The purchase was made possible by a $1700 grant by the Stanthorpe RSL Services Club. The stands will come in particularly handy for the group’s next concert on Sunday 2 June, which will be a joint affair also featuring the Granite Belt Choir and Warwick’s East Street Singers. The event will start at 2pm and will be a Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery event so will be held wherever the art gallery is by then – the Stanthorpe Civic Centre or the actual gallery.

Another event will feature the Occasional Players, an extremely talented small group within the SDSE, along with singing groups Contempo and the Granite Belt Choir. That concert will be have the theme of Seasons and will celebrate the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery’s major refurbishment. The concert is planned for 23 June.
