Warwick Bowls fours decided

The team of Aaron Payne, Max Holder, Craig Thurgate and Trevor Wright have taken out the Warwick Bowls Self Selected Fours, finalised on Saturday.

Both the semi final and final of the self selected competition were played on Saturday with some hard fought games across the day,

In the morning, Arron Payne, Max Holder, Craig Thurgate and Trevor Wright defeated Pamela Kerr, Clark Davidson, Dave Scotney and Brian Black 21-19 to win their way through to the final.

Wright’s team came from behind, down 9-1 on the sixth end, rallying back to tie 14-all on the 16th end.

On the 20th End Black’s team led 19-17, but then Wright’s team tied 19-all on the 21st End. There was a playoff to decide the winner and with Craig Thurgate playing the shot of the day with his last bowl to give Wright’s team the game on the 21st End.

The second semi saw Pat Seipelt, Trish Owens, John Ruhle and Russell Bean too strong for Shane Bailey, Barry Perks, Gary Cooper and Faye Flint to win 20-10. Flint played a great game but Bean played championship bowls to win the game.

The final was played after lunch with the team of Aaron Payne, Max Holder, Craig Thurgate and Trevor Wright beating Pat Seipelt, Trish Owens, John Ruhle and Russell Bean 22-13.

Wright’s team led 13-0 on the seventh end and by the 15th end they were winning 18-9 eventually taking the game 22-13 on the 21st end.

On Wednesday, 24 April, JackPot Pairs was held with 20 players on the green, and a JackPot of $100 which had to be drawn until it was won.

Jack Pot Bowls: Two Rounds were played with the second round the loser on each rink remaining where they were and the winner moving on to the next rink, giving everyone a different team to play.

Games Director Faye and Brian Black did the Draw, and after three draws with no winner the number +17 came out with the win going to Trish Owens and John Ruhle with a score of +17.

Stanthorpe Bowls Club Bowls

With many members away this week, it was fairly quiet on the social Bowls scene.

David Rose and his team had a four-shot victory over Brian Brown’s team defeating them by 17-13. Caroline Draper and Jeff Alldridge were too strong for the combination of Helen Jones and Greg Hammond defeating them by 28-7 and on the adjoining rink in a close encounter, Colin Denning and Bruno Stefanon had a 12-11 shot victory over the combination of Greg Zed and Greg Hammond.

Colin and Bruno were trailing by nine shots to one at the half way mark but they held their composure and went on to win the game.

The final of the 2024 Men’s A Singles took place on Saturday 27 April between Len Girgenti and David Rose.

Girgenti had the radar working well throughout the game and went on to win the final quite comfortably. Jack Bell was marking.

The 2024 Club Selected Triples Competition will take place on Saturday 4 May and Sunday 5 May commencing at 9.30am. Three teams have nominated for the event and the competition will be played in a round robin format. The teams, the draw and conditions of play are up on the Club notice board.

The next ‘Turkey Triples’ day will be held Tuesday 14 May at 10 am. Cost is $15 per player and includes two games of Bowls, a light lunch and refreshments and there will be prize money for the winners and runners up. THE SUMMIT BOWLS NOTES

Jamie Zamprogno played Tyler Sweeney in the Championship Singles on Thursday afternoon with Zamprogno winning 25-19.

Zamprogno started strongly and led Sweeney 13-4 early. Sweeney fought back to level the scores 18-all after 21 ends. Zamprogno then played some great shots to convert heads after Sweeney had held shots and won 25-19.

Three games of social bowls were played on Thursday afternoon. Eddie Zanatta, Tina Schubert and Graeme Warner 12 v Phil Davis, Pam Moore and Ray Spiller 12 – Brian Webster and Adrian Jackson 19 v Joe Straatman and Carl Sutherland 13 – Rod Crome and Tony Schubert 22 v Rod Newlands and Glen Preston 15.

On Saturday the men’s three bowl pairs were played. Sixteen pairs played in the competition and this club selected event allowed many bowlers the opportunity to play in the event. The winners of the sections were Section one: Rod Crome and Steve Martin 6 plus 51 – Section two: Eddie Zanatta and Eliseo Zamprogno 6 plus 21; Section three: Alex Mattiazzi and Rob Capelli – 6 plus 18; Section four: Graeme Warner and Darren Stanley 4 plus 22.

On Sunday in the semi-finals Rod Crome and Steve Martin defeated Eddie Zanatta and Eliseo Zamprogno 21-15. This game was close until the final three ends where Crome and Martin scored seven shots to seal the game. In the other semi-final Graeme Warner and Darren Stanley were in control for most of the game and won 21-11. In the final Crome and Martin led for a good part of the game. Warner and Stanley started to come back into the game and had closed the gap to three shots. On the 19th end Warner and Stanley held three shots and Martin reached the head and moved the jack to score two shots. This conversion allowed Crome and Martin to win 20 shots to 13.

The Ladies’ Championship Singles were also played as a round robin competition. Pam Moore is the singles champion as she won all her games in the competition. The club wishes Moore all the best in the district playoffs. The club was pleased that Margaret Harvey who is ninety years of age played all her games in the competition. Thanks goes to Cliff Jones who marked the games.

In a weekend of finals, the final of the Men’s Championship Singles was played between Jamie Zamprogno and Frank Taylor. This game was close the first nine ends and the scores were 8 all. From this point Zamprogno played some amazing draw shots and won the game 25 to 9. Taylor played well. However, Zamprogno managed to draw shots when he was down. The club wishes Jamie all the best in the playoffs. Owen O’Brien is thanked for marking the game.
