Former students of Warwick High School from the forties, fifties, and early sixties will gather in Warwick on 5 September to reconnect, reminisce, and revel in the nostalgia of their school days.
In addition to residents of the Downs, some alumni are flying in from southern states and others are organising carpools to travel from Brisbane and the Gold Coast for the day.
Event organiser Judith Anderson said they were so excited that so many of the cohort were planning to join the reunion.
“We may no longer be able to swim record times or run a hundred yards, but we have fabulous memories of our shared experiences, our teachers, and our time in the classrooms at Warwick High – and we can still remember the War Cry!” Judith said.
“It’s all about celebrating memories and renewing connections.”
The event will feature a special buffet lunch at Clippers Bar and Grill in the Jackie Howe Motel on Victoria Street, followed by an afternoon tour of the school. Attendees will visit familiar classrooms, share stories and memories, and discover how secondary education has evolved over the years.
For more than four decades, former students in this cohort have been organising reunions of their class or school year.
Many attended the school’s centenary celebrations in 2012.
The September reunion was initiated by a group that has been meeting regularly in Brisbane for lunch for over 20 years.
“We decided it was time to go back to Warwick to reconnect with the school and with school friends from further afield,” Judith said.
“Once we’ve met the challenge of recognising each other, it will be a wonderful opportunity to catch up on what has happened in all our lives since we last parked our bikes in the WHS bike-racks.”
In December, a monthly newsletter was launched for alumni to share their stories and photographs.
“There has been a tremendous response to this,” Judith said.
“And we’re looking forward to having many more stories to tell after the reunion.”
