Ergon Energy Network crews are currently responding to an incident that has caused a significant power outage affecting 1,683 customers in Amiens, Broadwater, Greenlands, and Stanthorpe.

The outage occurred after an accident brought down powerlines in the area, disrupting electricity services.

A spokesperson from Ergon Energy said the incident is a timely reminder that operators of heavy machinery need to take extra care when working around powerlines and to Look Up and Live.

“It just takes a momentary lapse in concentration and suddenly there’s the risk of electrocution,” they said.

Ergon Energy is urging all workers to take the necessary time to assess their surroundings before beginning operations, particularly noting the location of power poles and lines.

The company also highlighted the critical safety procedure of “STAY, CALL, WAIT” in the event of powerlines falling on vehicles or vehicles becoming entangled in electrical equipment. This means:

– STAY in the vehicle,

– CALL triple zero (000), and

– WAIT for emergency services and Ergon Energy crews to arrive.
