Whether you’re in the mood for a bit of Quando Quando, Cover Me in Sunshine or to soak in some classical harmonising, the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery is the place to be on Sunday 25 August.

At 2pm, the four groups that make up the Granite Belt Choir will present their annual combined concert, the Joan Smith Tribute Recital, as part of the Music in the Gallery calendar.

The selection is as varied as the groups. The Granite Belt Choir will present a combination of classics and present-day choral arrangements while Contempo will groove through the years from 1929 to 1972 – you’ll know all those tunes! Hollytops, a mostly a capella group, will add the likes of Tallis, Mendelssohn and Byrd to the mix and the Granite Belt Junior Choir will wow the audience with everything from California Dreamin’ to a song from the musical, Rent.

The concert pays tribute to the late Joan Smith, who was a high school teacher, piano teacher and a key figure in the Border Eisteddfod as well as being the original co-ordinator of Music in the Gallery, which she organised for more than 20 years.

Cost for the concert is $20 for adults, $15 for Stanthorpe Art Gallery Society members while children aged 15 years under are free. Bookings can be made through Humanitix via the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery website.
