Vote of confidence stifled

A vote of confidence in the Southern Downs Regional Council’s CEO David Burges has been stifled at the most recent meeting of the SDRC.

Cr Ross Bartley presented a notice of motion of confidence in the CEO for the agenda on 21 August meeting but a decision will be delayed until the end of the year.

When Mayor Melissa Hamilton opened the matter for debate, Cr Joel Richters moved a procedural motion for an adjournment until 15 December, on the basis that the CEO’s review was currently in progress.

Procedural motions stop the process of debate, so there was no discussion on why a vote of confidence had been suggested in the first place.

Voting against the adjournment were Cr Bartley and Cr Russell Wantling. A division was recorded.
