Graham Parker was honoured at the Stanthorpe and Granite Belt Chamber of Commerce event with the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow award by Rotary.

The award, which is one of the highest honours in Rotary, recognises individuals who exemplify the organisation’s motto of “Service Above Self.“

Stephen Tancred, president of the Stanthorpe Rotary, said when they see people embodying the motto they love to recognise them.

“Graham Parker is one such person, whose good works deserve to be celebrated,“ he said.

The Paul Harris Fellow award, named after Rotary’s founder, Paul Harris, is a significant recognition within the Rotary organisation, symbolising a commitment to humanitarian efforts and community service.

Graham Parker’s contributions to the Granite Belt region are extensive. Since moving to the area 16 years ago, Parker and his wife Donna have been deeply involved in numerous community initiatives. From his role in the Ballandean Rural Fire Brigade, where he serves as the second warden and manages the brigade’s Facebook page, to his efforts during the 2019 drought with the Granite Belt Water Relief Charity, Graham has been a tireless advocate for the region.

“Graham was one of the first to step up during the drought, working nearly every weekend to support the community,“ Mr Tancred said.

“He’s also played a key role in revitalising the Apple and Grape Festival and Snowflakes in Stanthorpe, two of the region’s largest events.“

Graham’s involvement in the Stanthorpe Chamber of Commerce has also been pivotal. Under his leadership as President, the Chamber has expanded its membership, forged partnerships with other regional Chambers, and advocated for critical issues like long-term water security for the Granite Belt.

Upon receiving his award, Graham said his intentions are never for the accolades but about what the community needs.

“Having been involved with Rotary in the past, I’m well aware of just how important this award is to Rotarians worldwide,” he said.

“I’m deeply honoured to be recognised in this way.”
