The decision has been made for Churches of Christ to exit its residential aged care facility in Stanthorpe after an operational review.

The move comes as part of a broader plan by the organisation to consolidate and refocus its operations across the state.

A spokesperson for Churches of Christ explained that the decision was made after an extensive review of the organisation’s operations.

“After much consideration, Churches of Christ in Queensland has made the difficult decision to exit some of our residential aged care facilities,” the spokesperson said.

“Following a period of review across the business, including an independent review of our operations, it is important for us to consolidate and refocus the organisation to ensure a sustainable future.”

With Churches of Christ being a staple in the community since 2014, the decision to step away is significant.

However, the national company has assured residents and staff that the transition will be handled carefully.

“We are working with industry specialists to identify a suitable, like-minded provider who will take over operations,” the spokesperson said.

“This decision is absolutely no reflection on the level of care of our services, and our quality of care will remain our priority. We are strongly committed to ensuring our residents and staff experience minimal disruption during this process.”

The Stanthorpe exit is part of a broader transition, with the organisation also stepping away from aged care facilities in Hervey Bay, St George, Cardwell, and Ingham.

According to the spokesperson, these decisions were made for the same reasons—to ensure the sustainability of the organisation moving forward.

“Our aim is to ensure a smooth transition of operations, allowing both residents and staff to experience minimal disruption to their daily routine,” the spokesperson said.

“Our priority is and will always be our people and the residents they care for.”

Churches of Christ is now working to secure new providers for each of the facilities, with the goal of maintaining the high level of care that residents and staff have come to expect.
