Stanthorpe Film Society hosted a very successful event on 28 September at the Arcadia Cinema (off Railway St) in Stanthorpe.

The event was the 27th annual Manhattan Short Film Festival and the enthusiasm of the audience at this sold-out event was a testament to the longevity of the festival.

Ten short films (of between 5 and 22mins) will automatically be eligible for an Academy Award nomination and were selected from around the world, with contributions from the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Ukraine, France, Italy, Croatia, the USA and Australia.

During the intermission, the local and interstate crowd enjoyed pizza from the local pizza shop and local wine while mingling to discuss their enjoyment and opinions after seeing the first five films.

At the end of the screening, the audience was encouraged to complete voting forms to declare their favourite film and best actor. The forms were collected, tallied and the results have been forwarded to the organisers in New York, who will announce the winners in both categories as voted by over 500 venues around the world, on Monday 7 October at 10am at manhattanshort.com

The enthusiasm of the audience and overall success of the evening has the Stanthorpe Film Society management committee keen to participate in hosting this annual global event next year and into the future.
