10 things to know from Queensland Farmers’ Federation

1. The QFF Farm Business Hour is on again, this time we will hear from Cotton Australia to lead a discussion on the priority risks this $3.5 Billion industry faces. Approximately 90 per cent of Australian cotton farmers are family businesses.

2. The housing and accommodation shortage is further contributing to the difficulty many industries, including agriculture, are currently having in being able to attract workers. The Queensland Government has announced that they will stage a Housing Summit to address the urgency around multiple housing.

3. Cotton Australia are running a myBMP express masterclass which will help those growers who don’t know where to start with myBMP, or want to complete several modules in a day, or would like to work towards earning BCI credits and extra dollers per bale. The express masterclass is on Monday 26th September from 10 am to 12.30 pm with lunch included at The Atherton International Club. Bring your laptop/table and myBMP login details. 4. Telstra and OneWeb are progressing towards building a commercial relationship with testing underway on OneWeb’s network of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. The joint testing program, which started in the UK on OneWeb’s live constellation, has now moved to Australia where use cases that improve connectivity for Telstra’s most remote customers will be tested in local conditions.

5. The Bureau of Meteorology has declared a La Niña event is underway in the Pacific Ocean and communities in eastern Australia should be prepared for above-average rainfall over spring and early summer.

8. The AgriFutures Emerging Industries Program is calling for small to medium businesses within emerging industries that have an idea to alleviate a key industry issue that could be solved through a ‘non-traditional’ research project. Applications close 12 noon AEST Friday, 30 September 2022.

9. Dairy farmers and their families are grateful for the ongoing strong support of Australian consumers for fresh nutritious milk, which is a staple of their food basket.
