College equestrian team continues to perform well

The Scots PGC College Equestrian team’s successful year continued at the State Interschool Queensland Eventing Championships, which were held in Brisbane and State IQ Championships, which were held earlier this month at Maryborough Showgrounds.
Riders had qualified through the previous year from all over Queensland to take part in the State Championships.
All riders tried to gain a place on the state team to represent Queensland at the National Interschool Championships, at Werribee, Victoria to be held in the first week of October. Riders finishing in the top four automatically gain a place on the state team and the next two riders are reserves.
At the Eventing Championships where 80 riders competed over the two days, The Scots PGC Equestrian team had great success, taking out Reserve Champion Secondary Team.
The team members were Maddie Jones, Alicia Seery, Caitlin Laird and Grace Buchholz.
Individual success was obtained by Maddie Jones who was Reserve Champion 1, Alicia Seery third Senior Preliminary, Hilary Meacle Reserve Champion Senior Introductory and Katy Sexton Champion Primary Preliminary.
At State Championships, places were available for the IQ State Team in Dressage, Combined Training for Primary Riders only, Showman and Showjumping.
Dressage was held over the first day of the competition, where about 130 riders competed.
The Scots PGC secondary team was successful in winning Champion Secondary Team. This team consisted of Hilary Meacle, Sarah Wilson, Maddie Jones and Brienna Jameson.
Students were also successful individually, with Brooke Wilson taking out Reserve Champion Primary Novice, Sarah Wilson fifth Secondary Medium Championships and Hilary Meacle Reserve Champion Secondary Advantest.
The Combined Training competition was held over two days, with 56 riders competing. The college’s secondary team were Reserve Champions. This team consisted of Maddie Jones, Elysia Roach, Caitlin Laird and Grace Buchholz.
They then moved onto the Showman day with 113 riders competing. The Scots PGC Secondary Showman Team was Reserve Champion. This team consisted of Caitlin Laird, Rhiannon Thomas, Hilary Meacle and Amelia Harney.
Individual success went to Brooke Wilson sixth in the Primary Three Phase, Brienna Jameson fifth and Cassie Heaslip sixth in the Secondary Three Phase. Hilary Meacle was third in the Four Phase Secondary 60cm, and Caitlin Laird third in the Four Phase Secondary 85cm.
This final day saw the Showjumping Championships and the Show Horse Championships. The college’s equestrian team took out Champion and Reserve Champion Secondary Showjumping Team.
Members of the champion team were Caitlin Laird, Madeleine Shera Jones, Alicia Seery and Elysia Roach.
The reserve champion team was made up of Kasey Charlton, Grace Buchholz, Brienna Miller and Hilary Meacle.
Individual success went to Hilary Meacle who came sixth in the 90cm Secondary, Kasey Charlton third 100cm Secondary, Alicia Seery Champion 110cm Secondary, Elysia Roach third 110cm Secondary, Grace Buchholz  sixth 110cm Secondary, Caitlin Laird Champion 120cm Secondary and Madeleine Shera-Jones third 120cm Secondary.
The Scots PGC show horse riders also had a good weekend, taking out fourth place in the senior team. This team consisted of Brienna Jameson, Amelia Harney, Hilary Meacle and Clare Hogan.
Amelia Harney also won the Reserve Champion Large Hack and Clare Hogan Champion Working Hunter Hack.
The college’s equestrian team was successful in overall Senior Team for the fourth year running.
As a result of their riders’ success at these championships, the college has seven individual riders qualified to compete in 12 separate disciplines at the National Interschool Championships.
They also have six riders on the reserve list for these championships.
