Big weekend for Stanthorpe golfers

Two big days of golf were played last weekend in Stanthorpe. Both well supported and both played in fine winter weather. Players went round for the monthly medal and putting on Saturday and Club Foursomes Championships on Sunday.
Danny Folkers had a good day returning a nett 65 to take out the August medal and qualify for the Medal of Medallists to be played in November.
There is plenty of mail to suggest Danny is hitting the ball a long way and accurately. Brendan Barker settled for runner-up with 67 (c/b) as well as best gross of 79 and best putting with 25. Thanks to Gino’s Floor Coverings for sponsoring the day.
Pin shots went to Nick Milne at 3/12 and Clarkie at 17. Pro-pins collected by Trevor Ludlow at 1/10, David Reeves at 5/14 and Matt Waterworth at 9/18.
In the run down, it was a ball each to Keith Allen (67), Matt Waterworth (68), Stephen Kay (68), Darrell Boekholt (69) and Norm Steele (70).
The ladies event was won by Linda Kelly with nett 69 and Lyn Ludlow runner-up with nett 71. Christine Welstead took the pin shot at 3/12 and Jean Gilmour won best approach at 17. Madelaine Jarman featured in the run down with 75. It was great to see a strong turnout of ladies.
The Club Foursomes Champion-ships was held on Sunday; 27 holes played in two divisions. In this alternate shot format, your partner has to play the next shot, very good if you hit it behind a tree. ‘A’ grade champions for the year are David Reeves and John Haynes with a score of 116, one shot clear of the field. B grade went to Greg Yap and Aaron Simmers with a score of a few more than ‘A’ grade winners.
This Saturday Peter Smallwood and Madelaine Jarman are sponsoring a single Stableford. As usual the timesheet is on the board at the clubhouse.
A reminder junior golf starts at Stanthorpe Golf Club on Friday, August 19, after school. All interested juniors are most welcome to come
and try.
