SCOTS compete nationally

The SCOTS PGC College will have eight riders representing Queensland in the National Interschool Championships at Werribee, Victoria, in October.
The members of The SCOTS PGC College Equestrian Team making the trip are Madeleine Shera-Jones, Caitlin Laird, Hilary Meacle, Elysia Roach, Alicia Seery, Kasey Charlton, Rhiannon Thomas and Brienna Jameson.
These eight riders make up just under 20 per cent of the Queensland secondary team.
SCOTS equestrian boarder captain and Year 12 student Madeleine Shera-Jones has been given the honour of being selected as the Queensland Interschool Eventing Team captain.
Madeleine is competing in the 1-Star Eventing Championships and also in the 120cm Showjumping Championships.
Along with Madeleine, the college’s equestrian day captain and Year 12 student Caitlin Laird has been selected vice-captain of the Queensland Interschool Showjumping Team.
Caitlin is competing in the 120cm Showjumping Championships, as well as the 85cm 4 Phase Showman Championships.
SCOTS’ other Year 12 student making the trip to the nationals with Madeleine and Caitlin for the last time will be Hilary Meacle.
Hilary will be competing in the Introductory Eventing Championships and the 90cm Showjumping Championships.
For these three members, these championships will draw to a close their long and very successful involvement in the college’s equestrian program, as they will be departing the college at the end of the year and going on to further endeavours in their personal careers.
College equestrian coach Richard King said, “We wish them every success in their future endeavours and thank them greatly for their involvement and contribution to the equestrian team.
“Looking ahead, our equestrian team has great depth for the future, with our Year 11 student Elysia Roach representing Queensland in 110cm Showjumping Champion-ships,” Mr King said.
“Elysia’s showjumping performance away from The SCOTS PGC College Equestrian Team has been going from strength to strength this year, with her consistently performing well in the Junior Championships,” he said.
To demonstrate the depth of talent in the college equestrian team, the remaining four riders are drawn from the Year 10 student body.  Alicia Seery will be representing Queensland in the 110cm Showjumping Championships, as well as the Preliminary Eventing Championships.
Kasey Charlton will also be representing Queensland in 100cm Showjumping Championships.
Rhiannon Thomas will represent Queensland in the 85cm 4 Phase Showman Championships and Brienna Jameson will represent Queensland in the 3 Phase Showman Championships.
“The college wishes all our students and their parents, without whose support this trip would not be possible, and of course their equine partners, a safe road trip there and back and good luck at the National 2011 Interschool Equestrian Championships,” Mr King said.
