Successful chase in Mitchell Shield

Stanthorpe was successful in the last round of the Mitchell Shield when they hosted Warwick at headquarters, CF White Oval.
Warwick had first use of the wicket and in a solid batting performance scored a reasonable total of 262. Warwick batsman Adam May backed up after scoring a century in club cricket on Saturday with a top score of 113 off only 76 balls. May’s back to back centuries in club and rep cricket are almost certainly the first in two decades from a Warwick player and while it was undoubtedly the highlight of the visitor’s innings it was not enough to get his team over the line. The Warwick’s teams score restricted after being bowled out in the 47th over. The Stanthorpe bowlers took wickets at regular intervals during the innings but assisted the Warwick score bowling 25 wides. Sundries being right up there on the score sheet as Jamie Saunders the second highest run scorer managed only 28. Sam Dowie finished with figures of 3/43, Duane Lihou 2/43 and Anthony Marino 2/40.
Stanthorpe got their innings off to a flier with a century opening partnership between Sam Dowie and Todd Brady before Brady fell for 47 to the bowling of Brett McEvoy. Dowie was the next to go on 60. Stanthorpe looked to be cruising when Mark Lanza was out with the score on 3/175. They required just 90 runs with seven wickets in hand, however, with the loss of a couple of quick wickets and the score at 5/218 the complexion of the game changed and there were some nervous moments for the home side as runs required drew level with balls remaining. The cool heads of youngsters Dean Sullivan (37 not out) and Hayden Lanza unbeaten on 22 guided Stanthorpe home with only balls to spare.
Kev Poole proved the most efficient of the visiting attack with figures of 3/41. Brett McEvoy picked up one wicket in his nine over spell for 32 runs.
