Tennis back in Stanthorpe

The Junior Development Series Circuit South Region Event was held at the Stanthorpe & District Tennis Association courts over two glorious days this past weekend.
After an absence from the circuit for two years, the Association was pleased to welcome thirty-seven players including nine locals.
Some impressive results were achieved by local participants:
Katie Draheim – winner 15/17 & under girls singles and winner 15/17 & under girls doubles. Samantha Draheim – winner 15/17 & under girls doubles and runner-up 15/17 & under girls singles
Liam Halloran – winner 17 & under boys doubles and runner-up 17 & under boys singles and Georgia Williams – winner 11/13 & under girls doubles.
This really is an excellent result for local juniors. Considering the difficulties of the last couple of years, it is a result that can be built upon and improved in the future, with greater local representation. The local juniors must be proud of themselves, as they were great ambassadors for our club and our community as a whole.
Special thanks must go to all the volunteers, not only those who assisted over the weekend with the running of the event, but also those who provided wonderful home cooked goodies. The comments from all were that our canteen is equal to or better than any other canteen on the circuit, due largely to those home cooked treats.
Without the tireless assistance of our wonderful volunteers, organising, hosting and running this event would not be possible. In particular: the Draheim family, the Williams family, Yvonne Batterham, Margaret Smith, Marian McNichol, Carolyn Lee, Barbara Hines, Jenny Humble, Alison Mahilka, Madeline Bosel and our gracious patroness, Mrs Enid Hamilton.
In addition, the club enjoyed the very generous support of some local businesses: Quartpot Bakehouse, The Summit Fruit, Topbeat Entertainment and The Stanthorpe Apple Shed.
Our massive Easter Raffle was drawn on the Sunday afternoon. A big ‘thank you’ to all who supported the club by purchasing tickets. First prize went to Elizabeth McCrystal and second prize went to Lea Hurse.
We look forward to making next year’s event bigger and better.
