First win of season

The Warwick Wildcats were 10 points down early in the third quarter of their Development League basketball game on Saturday night, but powered home to win their first game of the season.
In front of a vocal home crowd of more than 300 people, the Wildcats ended up winning against Brisbane team Northside Wizards 74-63.
New recruit Mike Matthews played his first game for the Wildcats, and played strongly to finish with 22 points.
But it was the Warwick big players who led the way in the last quarter as the Wildcats outscored the Northside Wizards 30-15.
Declan Starasts, Michael McDaniel and Cameron Scutts muscled up against a very physical Northside team to overpower their counterparts and close out the game.
Starasts finished the game with 23 points to lead the way for the Wildcats, while Cameron Scutts had nine points. Michael McDaniel and Snowy Quinn both finished with eight points each.
“I know that it is still early in the season and we have three losses already, but if we can keep this team together without too many more injuries or disruptions, we should be very difficult to beat,” coach Jeff Clark said.
“I know that it will be a big ask, but we have set ourselves a goal of going through the rest of the season undefeated. If we can achieve this, we should be able to make the playoffs in August.
“This would be unheard of as a new team in the league, but we have to aim high, and have confidence in ourselves.
“I have always maintained that if we could get this team on the court regularly, we are a real title chance. Time will tell.
“We still have former QBL player Leon Perdue to come back into the side as well.”
After a slow start to the game, Clark was happy with the way that the players combined in the second half to overpower their opposition.
The Warwick West State School choir started the game off in fine style with a great version of Advance Australia Fair.
For those who missed the game, the Wildcats will be back again this Sunday at 3.30pm at WIRAC when they take on the Gold Coast Breakers team who are currently sitting in third position on the table out of 15 teams.
