Members of the Stanthorpe community were treated to classes held by QLD Ballet over the weekend, as part of the company’s 2022 Regional Community Workshop Tour.

Led by Education Manager, Martha Godber, and held at the Stanthorpe Civic Centre, the classes allowed people of all ages and abilities to express their artistic side while learning some of the physical benefits that ballet has to offer such as core control, strength and mobility.

Principal of Academy of Dance Stanthorpe Megan Maughan said the opportunity was welcomed by the dance community.

“It’s fantastic to have QLD Ballet come to town,” she said.

“Regional students often miss out on the variety and high level of dance tuition that the cities take for granted.

“I think it’s great that we are seeing opportunities like this in our community.”

The Brisbane-based company which is directed by Li Cunxin AO (aka Mao’s Last Dancer) trains elite dancers from all over the world and it has a strong commitment to creating accessible arts

opportunities.

Stanthorpe is just one of over 30 regional locations that will make up the 2022 tour.

A Queensland Ballet spokesperson said Queensland Ballet has a strong commitment to creating accessible arts opportunities.

“Through specialised dance knowledge and experience working in diverse settings, our Education Teaching Artists bring their expertise to inform the creation and delivery of our community and education programs,” the spokesperson said.

“Queensland Ballet is offering inspiring classes for people of all ages, with a focus on improving poise, core strength, memory and mobility.

“We are excited to hit the road again to spread the magic of ballet with participants of all ages and abilities on the Southern Downs as part of our 2022 Community Regional Tour.”
