Junior cricketers from around the Southern Downs region have been given a pre-season boost thanks the Junior Cricket Coaching Clinic held at Slade Oval, Warwick at the weekend.

Event coordinator Graeme Bourke, the clinic for boys and girls, was run by St Joseph’s College, Nudgee (better known as Nudgee College).

“This is the second year Nudgee College has run the Clinic and they were very happy with the numbers of young cricketers attending,” Bourke said.

“They (Nudgee) are impressed with the facilities here in Warwick. With such positive feedback we expect to see them back again next year.

“It is a great experience for the younger kids especially those who have limited experience and the standard of coaches they bring to these coaching clinics is fantastic.”

Earlier, the wet weather threatened to derail the day and although Bourke said there was a lot of surface water on one side of the wicket during the coaching session the kids were still able to get some time on the field with the Nudgee coaches and the members of the First XI.

Following the coaching clinic, the Nudgee visitors put on a BBQ for the kids and their parents which was a great hit with the kids.

The scheduled 40-over game between the Warwick Under-21 side (with a couple of older inclusions to guide the way) and the Nudgee first XI had to be reduced to a T20 game due to the wicket conditions.

The visitors, with the benefit of a great deal more practice easily accounted for the local lads however, for the younger members of the Warwick side it was valuable experience.

Warwick is not the only centre to benefit from a visit from Nudgee with the group also holding events at Dalby and Roma.
