Stanthorpe cowboy world title bound

Billy Gallaway is a teenage bullrider who know all about the highs and lows of the sport.

At the recent Stanthorpe Rodeo things did not go his way and it was a case of Bulls one- Billy nil.

However, disappointment turned to excitement for the young Cowboy, who is sponsored by Kent Saddlery, when learned he has been selected to compete in 2023 Junior Rough Stock World Finals which includes Mini Bull and Bareback horse riding. The World finals will be held in Las Vegas from the 6 to 11 December.

A typical teenager, Billy is a man of few words and let his mother Kim doing the talking for him.

“Billy was over moon,” Kim said.

“We all are.

“In fact a bit speechless really even thought this is something Billy has worked hard for.”

Kim explained Billy will be one of a team of 15 Australian Cowboy’s selected to travel to the USA.

Billy will compete in the 12-13 year Mini Bull Ride.

The competition draws the top junior competitors from around the world.

What has Billy most excited is the prospect that the event attracts talent scouts from National Colleges. Billy has set his sights firmly on gaining a rodeo scholarship at one of the colleges in the USA.

This is a unique opportunity and an absolute privilege, and a goal Billy has strived towards in recent years.

His family say that it would not have been possible could if not for the unwavering support of Matthew and Patricia Doak of Doak Rodeo Company.

Stanthorpe Rodeo enthusiasts look forward to following the progress of this talented young bull rider between now and December and will be eagerly watching his results in Las Vegas.
