Mark Dangerfield, Brett Patrick and Geoff Davis won the Social Bowls Triples with the “ highest score” at the Southern Cross Bowls Club in Warwick.

BUSY WEEK ON STANTHORPE GREEN

A busy week at the Stanthorpe Bowls club wrapped up on Sunday with the eagerly anticipated Open Triples Carnival’ sponsored by the Stanthorpe RSL.

Forty-two bowlers from across the district took part filling the green.

It was quite close but taking home the booty was Steve Tyter’s team who had three wins for a plus 22 score.

The runners up were the Southern Cross Number one team – they also had three wins for a plus 18 card.

In third place was the team from Tenterfield with two wins and plus 23.

Frank Taylor’s composite team were the final round winners with an impressive plus 19 score.

Earlier in the week ( Wednesday) the club held the monthly ‘Turkey Triples’ event. The event was well supported with 30 players participating.

The winning team with an impressive score of 30 was the local team of David Draper, Bruno Stefanon and Len Girgenti.

The runner’s up, the team of Shirley Alcock, Lynn Collier and Robert Alcock . Their score 24. Next months ‘Turkey Triples’ will be held on Wednesday 1st November. Anyone wishing to take part in the event please call Peter on 0427 660 881 to register.

APPLE BLOSSOM CARNIVAL AROUND THE CORNER

The Summit Bowls Club’s annual Apple Blossom Carnival is only weeks away. (21 and 22 October). There are still spaces available in the pairs on Saturday and the fours on Sunday.

If you wish to nominate you can do so at the club or by contacting Games Director – Peter Ayerst.

Darren Stanley, David Stibbard, Rob Capelli and Steve Martin will be representing the Summit at the State Champion of Champions four’s playoff in Mackay on the same weekend. Members of the club wish the team of all the best in Mackay and hopes they enjoy the experience. Travel Safe.

Last Saturday Members of the Summit Bowls club played social bowls. Maree Ball, Ray Spiller and Rob Capelli had a one shot win over Mary Zanatta, Phil Davis and David Stibbard 15. the score 16-15.

Brian Brown, Kurt Empen and Alex Mattiazzi defeated Rod Crome, Rod Newlands and Adrian Jackson 13-11.

The Summit Bowls Club wishes to thank the Stanthorpe RSL for the opportunity to conduct raffles at the club each Wednesday during September. The offer was greatly appreciated, and the club will make good use of the proceeds.

MONTHLY TRIPLES SUCCESS

The Warwick Bowls Club hosted 14 teams in their monthly Triples competition on Tuesday (3/10/). The overall winners were the team of Gordon Assay, Matt Shepherd and Steve Tyter from Southern Cross. Their total score 28

The Stanthorpe Team of Polly Lay, Brian Brown and Frank Taylor were the runner’s up.

Edwin Welsh, Richard Tartan and Craig Thurgate from the host Club, Warwick were the last round winners defeating Weier, P. Ridgewell and W. Foster 15-4.

Thanks to our sponsors RSL Club Warwick, Toyota and Zarraffa’s Coffee. Without their assistance, these days could be possible. Thanks to Betta Electrical and Warwick Jewellers for their support of the day.

Chairman Max thanked everyone including players, Green Keeper, Games Director, Bar and Kitchen Staff and the Club’s volunteers.

Evening Bowls were played last Thursday (5/10). Ray Southee, Aaron Payne and Gerda Brack played Gary Cooper, M. Guy and Nat Kumseewad on Rink One. Julie Grayson, Max Balfour and Peter Mole played Peter Guy, John Ruhle and Max Holder on Rink two. Following the Sausage sizzle at the break the winning teams changed Rinks.

On Saturday Nat Kumseewad and Max Balfour def. Percy Cutmore and Ray Southee 19-11. Peter Guy and Craig Thurgate scored a 22-16 win over Pamela Kerr and John Ruhle.

SUPER VETS DAY

The Warwick Bowls club is hosting a bowls morning for the Southern Downs District Ladies Bowls Association’s Super Vets (over 80 years) on Tuesday, 24 October.

All Super Veterans, Past and Present, Females and Males, of our Club have been invited. Morning Tea is at 9.30am. There will be bowls for those wishing to play following morning tea. Lunch will be around noon. Carers are very welcome. All Clubs cover the cost for their own Super Vets, to show their appreciation to them as valued club members.

WARWICK EAST ROSE FIESTA

Spring is in the air and on Saturday the Warwick East Bowls club hosted their annual Rose Fiesta mixed fours carnival. 14 teams played the event.

Although the wind was a little trying at times, the green played very well.

The winners were the “Misfits” aka Judy Hess, Mick Carmody, Larry Taylor and Brent Hobbs.

The Summit team of Tony Schubert, Carl Sutherland, Pam Moore and Jamie Zamprogno finished in second place and in third place the composite team of Zel Zamprogno, Frank Taylor, Dale Callaghan and Elena Scott.

The round one winners were Nev Richardson, Judy Richardson, Trudy Elder and Peter Ayerst.

The winners of round two, the team of Aaron Richie, Jackie Richie, Dave Smith and Dan Hughes.

Peter Collis, Adam Tozer, Sue Butz and Ray Butz were the round three winners.

The success of the carnival was due in no small way to the sponsorship of Oak Tree Retirement Village, Warwick Credit Union, Warwick RSL, Warwick Jewellers, Olsens Hardware, Centrepoint Motel and Spano’s IGA.

Without support from sponsors carnivals are not possible. Thank you also to the donors of raffle prizes; the ground staff who presented the green in excellent condition, the catering and bar staff and all others who helped in any way. Lastly thank you Margaret Wright and Steve Ford who ensured the day ran smoothly.

Last Thursday (5/10) the winners of the monthly the club’s monthly triples day Mick O’Leary, Peter Ridgewell and Mark Lister. The runners-up were Margaret Grayson, Sue Butz and Lorna Tucker.

Tomorrow evening (Friday 13 October) the club’s season of night bowls Kick off. Play begins at 6pm. Please have names in by 5.30pm. Play is expected to finish by 8.30pm. The Cost of $10 includes a sausage sizzle.

Mixed social bowls resume this Saturday (14/10). Play starts at 1pm with prizes on offer and a chance to try for the jackpot, which is approaching $200.

SUNDAY FUN DAY

Plenty of members from the Southern Cross Club have been flying the flag with success at the many carnivals and special bowls days across the Southern Downs this week. Closer to home, Sunday was a fun day again the Southern Cross Bowls Club. 12 players fronted up for a game including Gunter Nicklich eager for a roll. Even Reggie was back.

The wheel was spun, and the winners decided by the highest score. Congratulations Mark Dangerfield, Brett Patrick and Geoff Davis who got up with a score of 30 against Michael Redgewell, Roger Cavanagh and Jim Lamb (12).

In another game, Sam Cavanagh, Barry Frame and Vince Hemmings defeated Kev Seaby, Val Gray and Gunter Nicklich 20 to 15.

Mark Dangerfield had success in the lucky number raffle collecting $25. The member’s draw jackpots to $80 this week as Barry Heffernan was not present to collect his prize.

EVENING BOWLS GROWING IN POPULARITY

Numbers on the Clifton bowling green for Thrusday evening bowls are continuing to climb.

This past week 21 players were on the green for the popular weekly competition.

The winners of winners, the team of Trevor, Fred and Neil. The winners of losers Allan, Steven, Rob and Andy.

A reminder that Night Bowls on Thursday 26/10 will be Country Week sponsored by Bill Keenan. All welcome.

Last Saturday’s club trophy was won by G Knights, L Smith and M Kindelan who defeated B Kindelan, P Ryatt and N Postle19-14.
