The Summit Bowls club has taken out the Southern Downs District Club Sevens at Tenterfield, defeating Stanthorpe 2-1 in the final.

Eight sides played on Saturday in the sectional play. This event used a new format which was popular with all players.

Each side was composed of three teams and the end result was judged on the performance of all three teams. This teaches players the importance of playing for the side rather than individual teams.

Section one was won by Stanthorpe and section two by The Summit one team.

The two teams played in the final on Sunday morning. Results were as follows – Pairs – David Stibbard and Rob Capelli (The Summit) 21 defeated David Rose and Len Girgenti (Stanthorpe) 11; Jamie Zamprogno and Tony Schubert (The Summit) 31 defeated Polly Ley and Wendy Hurrell (Stanthorpe) 13 and in the triples John Fairley, Brian Brown and Gary Trevena (Stanthorpe) 17 defeated Matthew Murphy, Eliseo Zamprogno and Tyler Sweeney (The Summit) 15. With the Summit winning two disciplines to one.

The weekend proved to be financially rewarding the winners (thanks to sponsorship from Tenterfield Bowls Club) and the runners up (thanks to sponsorship from Federation Pies and Garden Café Tenterfield). It is hoped that this event helped foster pride in the performance of their club.

The Tenterfield Club is congratulated for the way they ran the event.

The Summit Club also wishes to thank the other two teams who represented the club. The second team came second in section one. The third team which was called into the competition late came second in section two and this was a great performance.
