Mark Thomas beat out a field of 74 other golfers to win the Warwick Golf Club’s Single Stroke event this past week.
Thomas came out on top with a nett 66. There was a four-way tie on 67 with Mike Hauff winning the countback for second spot thus relegating Phil Economidis, Peter Balfour and Geordie Russell to a ball each in the run down. Rounding things out on nett 68 were Wayne Wells, Jim Saunders, Stuart Wade,
Gary Russell-Sharam and Garry Hanson.
Pro Pin 13th winners were Mort Henderson, Rob Farrell and Mark Thomas.

The Tale of Two Golfers. Readers may be familiar with Dickens’ novel, The Tale of Two Cities (London and Paris at the time of the French Revolution). Well, Saturday saw the tale of two golfers. One golfer, Hamish Adam, the ‘London Golfer’, played with skill and dexterity – even getting an eagle on his way to a great score of ‘square with the card’ – 72. Regrettably the other golfer the ‘Paris Golfer’ tried hard but ultimately faced the Golf Guillotine of a very ordinary score.
The Game was a four ball best ball, where players teamed up in groups of two and recorded their best scores. It was a beautiful day for golf and a full field of potential ‘London Golfers’. The key reason why the day was so special was that it was sponsored by the Jam Factory.
In the broader tale of Two Golfers, the ‘London Golfers’ were Wesley Smith and Ivan Juriss. Well done with a total Stableford score of 45. The ‘Paris Golfers’ for second and third were also on a count back score of 45, and went to Lynette Ludlow and Michael O’Brien. Then it went to Lisa Stuart and Keith Barnett. All these on a tight score of 45. Next was Mark and Lochie Hendry, Mandy Benussi and Linda Kelly all on 44.
The rest of the card, pin and approach shots, went to Matti Burgess, Len Leith, Keith Jones, Nathan Reardon and Matt Waterworth. While the women’s went to Linda Kelly, Lisa Stuart, Lorraine Evans and Mei Bell.
A new feature of the presentations at the end of the day’s golf is the ‘Member’s Draw’. Each member has a number and a random number is drawn each week. The catch they have to be there to win it otherwise it jackpots to the next week. This week we had our first winner, Max Smith. Finally, it’s great to hear of Aaron Simmers continuing to make his recovery and even play a few holes of golf.
Warwick Women
What a change from last week to this week with the weather, the Warwick Women have had it all in the past couple of weeks and have handled it well. Wednesday 28 August the Ladies played in the Club Warwick RSL Mid-Week Medal, which the returning travellers enjoyed immensely. After stepping out of their comfort zones to play on Sand greens at St George, the golfers are enjoying the comfort of playing on grassed greens again. Majella Kahler may have struggled with the oily greens at the championships, but on her homecoming, she has flourished, winning the division one putting, and returning a fantastic 63 nett to win Division One. Majella only needed 26 putts for her round. Margaret Adcock was the next best golfer with 70 nett. Division 2 was won by Wendy Rhea who scored a great 72 nett just ahead of Di Johnston on 74 nett. Roslyn Darton took home the Division two putting with just 29 putts. The approaches for the day were Division 1 Judy Lester on the 8th, and Margaret Adcock on the 10th. Both the Division two approaches were won by Roslyn. The pro pin was skilfully won by Jo McAntee who shared it with Judy, Majella and Margaret. Friday, 30 August, saw pennant team travel to compete in the Adam Falconer Pennants. Our team of Melanie McLennan, Roslyn Darton, Narelle Norris, Wendy Rhea and Margaret Adcock came away with three wins and a square to be on top of the leaderboard going into the final round. Toowoomba is 3.5 points behind Warwick. Warwick host the final round of the pennants on their home course, hence they have a bye. So, they can only sit back and see how the other teams perform to see if they retain the number one status. The club would like to thank all the ladies who have represented them this year, namely Anne Lyons, Liz Cockram, Jill Barnes, Jo McAntee, Narelle Norris, Majella Kahler, Margaret Adcock, Mary Young, Melanie McLennan, Roslyn Darton, and Wendy Rhea.
Saturday 31 August, we saw the last of the official day of winter, and the onslaught of the hot weather. Carole Brandon didn’t let that bother her, as she had the incentive of winning the AOK Clothing voucher. 40 fabulous points were clocked up by Carole, beating fellow golfer Donna Keogh with 37 points. Wendy Rhea took out the Pro pin on the 5th. Wendy and many of our finely tuned lady golfers, are now ready to contest our Annual Open Day, which will be held on Thursday, 5 September. If any of you would still like to their names down to play, they are more than welcome, as there are still a few spots left on the timesheet.
