Tip on way out

In brief

DALVEEN’S tip is almost full and will have to close early next year, Southern Downs Regional Council has declared.
There is room for only one more disposal trench, Environmental Services Manager Tim O’Brien said.
Depending on the volume of waste disposal the site will close in February or March, Mr O’Brien said.
Dalveen residents will be asked to travel an extra 10kms to the Thulimbah transfer station.
Council is searching for a site for a new, modern waste transfer station in the northern Granite Belt which would allow more opportunities for recycling.
A key swap will be organised for those holding keys to the Dalveen facility so they can access the Thulimbah waste transfer station.

So – we meat again
CALLING former employees and associates of A.W. Anderson’s Wallangarra meatworks.
The local Wallangarra/Jennings Progress Association is arranging a reunion on the Australia Day weekend next year and is keen to contact those who were associated with the meatworks before its closure in 1982.
In its glory days the abattoirs made Wallangarra a meatworks town and the industrial hub of the border region.
A full weekend of events is planned, including the launch, by Alan Anderson, of the book: “Home on the Pig’s Back – A Story of the Wallangarra Meatworks”, produced by Mrs Dot Moore, the widow of former works manager, Ron Moore.
“Home on the Pig’s Back”, was the business slogan chosen by the founder, A.W. Anderson.
