Drivers beware

Stanthorpe Police

TWO minor traffic crashes occurred in Stanthorpe during the week.
An overseas visitor was charged after a collision for failing to give way at the Give Way sign at the the intersection of Britannia and Railway streets on Tuesday afternoon, 12 October. There were no injuries in the accident.
The second incident occurred on Friday night at the intersection of Amiens and Tennant roads when another overseas visitor allegedly failed to give way at a signed intersection. One of the drivers was transported to Stanthorpe Hospital suffering chest pain.
Police are reminding all drivers in the Stanthorpe area to be mindful of the influx of seasonal workers to the area, many of whom possess limited knowledge of the road rules.
“Never assume that drivers of other vehicles will obey Stop or Give Way signs because in many cases they don’t,” Officer-in-Charge, Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said.
“Slow down at all intersections and have some situational awareness when you drive.
“This may assist in preventing you becoming a victim.”
