Great ball of fire

DALVEEN will be the Southern Downs hotspot the first weekend in May as the Dalveen Rural Fire Brigade host their annual Backburners’ Ball.
All proceeds from the night will go to the Dalveen Rural Fire Brigade.
The brigade is continuing its efforts to build a regional training facility and incident control centre which can be used by both Stanthorpe and Warwick Fire Brigade groups.
Once again, a number of fires will be located around the Dalveen hall to keep people warm while headliners the Mic Travers Band from Brisbane will help entertain the crowd from 6pm.
Last year’s ball saw a 270-strong crowd rock into the early hours of Sunday morning.
Keen revellers braved the icy chill and camped on the oval, waking to the smell of a recovery breakfast.
Tickets for the 3 May event are strictly limited again this year and will be available from the Dalveen Post Office, Brinx Deli in Stanthorpe, Sam’s Fruit Shop at the Summit, or by calling Nathan Parkes on 0488 300 356.
Event organiser Mr Parkes urged people to get in early and purchase their tickets as there has already been quite a lot of interest already shown.
Tickets will remain the same price as last year – $35 for a family, $15 for adults.
Pre-paid tickets can be purchased up until 26 April.
A licensed bar will be operating and food available early in the night.
