THE race that stops the nation and Warwick TAFE’s reputation for first-class hospitality attracted 130 locals to attend the TAFE’s Horizons Restaurant last week for a three-course Melbourne Cup Day luncheon, which also served as a fundraiser for RACQ Careflight.
The luncheon, which was fully-booked within just a few days and even had a waiting-list, was put on by the TAFE in Warwick Certificate III, Hospitality, Events, and Cookery students, and featured fundraising raffles supported by donations from many local businesses including The Cherry Tree Café through to Carey Brothers Butchers.
TAFE in Warwick Hospitality and Events teacher Rob Hamilton said he was really pleased with how the day went.
He said he was proud of his students, saying they had been eagerly anticipating the pressures of a ‘real-life service’.
“The luncheon ended up raising around $600.00 for RACQ Careflight via community-supported raffles,” Mr Hamilton said.
“Our cookery, hospitality and events students worked very well as a team and gained valuable work experience, and all guests left here with a full and satisfied belly – it was a really positive outcome for all involved.”
Guests were also treated to a fashion parade, with outfits provided by Big W.
