TENTERFIELD’S main street upgrade has missed out on taking home a top gong at the Premier’s Public Sector Awards last month.
The project was nominated by NSW Roads and Maritime Services and recognised as a finalist in the Revitalising Regional NSW category, but was pipped at the post by State Libraries of NSW.
Tenterfield Shire Council mayor Peter Petty and director of engineering services Stephen Bell were among the enthusiastic crowd at the awards ceremony at Sydney Town Hall on 12 November.
“This is still a major achievement for our town,” Cr Petty said.
The renewal of the Tenterfield main street focused on creating improved pedestrian access, building communtiy spaces, sofening the landscape, reducing the speed limite to 40km/h and removing the walls.
Originally scheduled to take five years to complete, local, State and Federal government funding has meant the project has come in four years ahead of time.
