Students at the centre of politics

Warwick West State School students meet with federal member for Maranoa Bruce Scott at Parliament House, Canberra on Tuesday. The visit is part of a six-day excursion to the country’s capital for the school’s Yr 7 students, and a sprinkling of Yr 6 students, who jetted off to Canberra on Sunday chaperoned by deputy principal Phillip Higgins and head of curriculum Yr 7 Cheryl Harris. Principal Jason Callcott said the school has been making the trip down south for about 20 years, but now the students flew instead of taking the bus. He said it was an exciting experience as many had never been on a plane before. A highlight of the trip will be a school wreath laying ceremony performed by school leaders Casey Gillam and Isabella Newton at the Australian War Memorial.
