Volunteer fire-fighter burn-offs

The controlled burn at Rosenthal Heights on Saturday.

LOCAL volunteer fire-fighters took part in a burn-off at Rosenthal Heights on the weekend.
The area around the nature reserve near the water treatment plant has now been cleared. They also cleared a section in the middle of one of the roads in the area.
Volunteer members of the Rural Fire Service Queensland from The Glen, Greymere and Karara burnt the scrubland in a ‘cold fire.’ This was done to ensure only the undergrowth was affected.
Residents in Queensland can start their own fires for burning off grass, stubble, weeds, undergrowth and other vegetation, provided they obtain a valid permit issued by their local fire warden and it is not during a fire ban. They also must ensure certain conditions are followed as outlined in the permit, and that a person is in attendance at all times when the fire is alight.
The Queensland Rural Fire Service would like to remind anyone wishing to start a controlled burn to check with your local council before lighting any fires.
