This weekend Warwick will take part in the 2015 Relay for Life with the aim or raising $80,000.
Fundraising has been going for more than a month but the pinnacle of the Cancer Council’s awareness campaign will be on show for all to see and participate in this weekend.
The event will start at 3pm on Saturday and continue through to 9am on Sunday at Redbacks AFC Oval.
Lawrence Springborg will be this year’s patron and said he was proud to be a part of the event.
“I am honoured to be patron of our 2015 Southern Downs Relay for Life – an important event bringing the community together for a good cause,” Mr Springborg said.
“You only have to look at the passion of those who take part to know what this event means to the region’s residents, many of whom have had their lives touched by cancer.
“I encourage everyone to sign up for this year’s Relay and help raise much needed money for cancer research.
“CCQ’s Southern Downs Relay for Life will make a great contribution to community leadership in the fight against cancer.”
Cancer Council Queensland Relay for Life co-ordinator Shona Gibson said she wanted to thank Mr Springborg for his support.
“We want to acknowledge Mr Springborg’s ongoing support and enthusiasm for Relay and his efforts to help reduce the burden of cancer on our community,” Ms Gibson said.
“Relay for Life is a unique event where the community comes together in an amazing show of strength, camaraderie and goodwill to create hope for a cancer free future – and in the Southern Downs region that really shines through.”
It is a family friendly event and is open to people of all ages.
Entry is $15 for kids and $20 for adults, which includes a Relay shirt and breakfast at the event.
