A 122-year tradition will continue this weekend at the Warwick Turf Club for the annual Picnic Races on from noon on Saturday.
Turf Club secretary Kristen Doyle said it would be a full house at the Coffee Club Pavilion at the western end of the grounds, with more than 800 people expected.
She said the event was now unique and old style, with racegoers bringing their own food and drink and enjoying the day the way their ancestors did over the past almost century and a quarter.
For many local families including the Smiths and McDonalds, it is a long-standing family tradition according to Kristen to come along to the event, which this year has a five-race card and Ergon Energy as its major sponsor.
Rose City Shoppingworld will host the Fashions on the Field (this event is exclusive to The Coffee Club Pavilion ticket holders only) while a gourmet sausage sizzle will be held later in the evening followed by live music by Toowoomba’s Ben Mayes, who is back by popular demand.
