Bernard (Brian) Murray was declared a Tenterfield Shire councillor yesterday after the C Ward by-election was held on Saturday.
His nearest rival was Rebecca Carpenter, followed by Philip Harpham and then Larry Valentine.
Mr Murray said his main priorities would be to improve the condition of the shire’s roads as well as the beautification of Tenterfield Creek.
“I also want to make it a progressive, united and financially transparent council,” he said.
Tenterfield Shire Mayor Toby Smith congratulated Mr Murray on his election.
“I look forward to his input onto the council. I also would like to thank the other candidates,” Cr Smith said.
