Premier wishes Warwick a happy birthday

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh expressed her sincere gratitude to Warwick for inviting her to be a part of the city’s 150th birthday celebrations.
Not only did it give her a chance “to celebrate the history of this very important part in Queensland”, Ms Bligh said, but it provided a rare opportunity for her to visit her hometown with her husband Greg Withers.
“I was only one-year-old when my family left Warwick,” she said.
“It does have a very important part in my life,” Ms Bligh said at Saturday’s variety concert.
She mentioned the pride she had when regularly filling out documents asking her for her place of birth.
Ms Bligh enjoyed the variety concert, saying it was terrific, with a lot of good talent.
“It is an extreme pleasure for me to join you. Thank you for the invitation to me to share this with you.”
Southern Downs Regional Mayor Ron Bellingham said it was not often that the Premier of the State visited Warwick.
“She has a very soft spot in her heart for this community,” Cr Bellingham said.
He said Warwick’s 150th birthday celebratory events had so far been well supported, with a number still to occur, including the Mayoral Gala Charity Dinner on Saturday night and the Grand Finale “Party in the Park” family fun day on Sunday.
