Headline act for Jumpers and Jazz

Ingrid James has been confirmed as the headline act for the 2011 Jumpers and Jazz Festival.
Performing throughout Australia and overseas, Ingrid James is one of Queensland’s award-winning and leading jazz vocalists.
Appearances range from soloist with the Queensland Orchestra in Spirit of Christ-mas, which was broadcast nationally on ABC TV, and as a special guest at many jazz festivals throughout Australia, including performances in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast.
Ingrid has also performed overseas in Italy, France and Los Angeles and completed a three-week tour in the UK in 2010.
The Ingrid James Quintet will perform at the Heritage Street Party on Saturday, July 30 and at the Picnic in the Park on Sunday, July 31.
The Palace Hotel is also hosting an evening with the Ingrid James Quintet on Saturday, July 30.
In good news for aspiring jazz vocalists and musicians, Ingrid and her highly qualified band members will be running workshops in line with the “Creative Generation State Schools on Stage” program to educate local instrumental/vocal students on the jazz genre.
The workshops will be held in the Town Hall on Friday, July 29 (times are still being confirmed).
Ingrid and the band will work with students and interested adult performers with a long-term view to lifting the level of professionalism of the students and local entertainers and the quality of their future performances.
Specifically, the vocal and ensemble workshops will focus on improvisation, hearing the changes, the drama of jazz, team building and what to practise and how to practise.
